Testing
Bring the alternator in and we can test it. Confirming the unit is at fault keeps you from replacing a good part and chasing the same symptom twice.
A battery light that will not go out, headlights that dim at idle, or an engine that dies the moment the jumper cables come off all point at the charging system. A&J Summit Ridge Holdings LLC handles alternator testing, repair, and rebuild support at our shop on Avenue A in Lubbock, for 6v, 12v, and 24v units.
Charging faults show up differently from starting faults. Mention whichever of these you are seeing when you get in touch.
Still narrowing it down between the battery, the starter, and the alternator? Our Troubleshooting Guide covers the jump-start test and the safety warnings that go with it.
Three straightforward paths, depending on what the unit needs.
Bring the alternator in and we can test it. Confirming the unit is at fault keeps you from replacing a good part and chasing the same symptom twice.
Brushes, bearings, rectifier, and regulator account for most failures. See what an alternator rebuild involves.
If testing shows damage that makes a rebuild impractical, we will explain what we found so you can decide the next step.
Better details help us evaluate the unit faster when you bring it to the shop.

Usually, yes. A flickering or intermittent battery light commonly means the carbon brushes have worn down and are losing contact with the slip rings. It is worth acting on early, because the arcing that causes the flicker will eventually score or melt the slip rings on the rotor and turn a brush replacement into a much larger repair. There is a fuller explanation in the Troubleshooting Guide.
Yes. We work with 6v, 12v, and 24v alternators across industrial, agricultural, trucking, oilfield, and transit applications.
