Oilfield starting and charging work is the same job as other heavy-duty units, with worse dirt, heat, vibration, and distance from a parts counter. These are the units we see.
Pump jacks, transfer pumps, and support engines that have to crank when the lease needs them, often on 24v.
Stationary and trailer-mounted equipment whose starters and alternators live in dust and heat more than they sit in a shop.
Service trucks, winch trucks, and yard equipment running 12v or 24v starting and charging systems.
Units come in from the Permian and the rest of West Texas. The shop that does the work is in Lubbock.
Hobbs crews bring starters and alternators to Avenue A. We do not have a Hobbs location. One bench, one address.
Bring the complete starter or alternator, the machine it came off, and any readable label or casting numbers. We would rather look at it than have you guess.
A lot of oilfield equipment is 24v, not 12v. That is a different system, and treating it like a car charging problem wastes time.
A 24v no-crank is often the starter, the solenoid, the cables, or the batteries. Bring the starter or alternator so we can test the unit instead of swapping parts in the field. See also heavy-duty and industrial service and the troubleshooting guide.
The unit itself is the best reference. Bring it to 3511 Avenue A, Lubbock, TX 79404.
